Box Score 3 Leavenworth, KAN. - The Panthers picked up a big series sweep on the road against the University of St. Mary over the weekend. With the recent weather in the midwest the games were moved to Sunday and Monday. In the doubleheader on Sunday the Panthers won 10-0 in a dominating seven-inning performance by ace pitcher Daniel Tomkiewicz, followed by a 4-2 win in the nightcap.
Game 1
Tomkiewicz through a complete game allowing just one hit and striking out 10 batters. The offense took care of the rest as they used a big first inning and a big fourth inning to win 10-0.
Daniel Polo got the scoring started as he knocked in Tony Riley and Nicholas DeMonte with his double. Charlie Kontantino followed up with an RBI single to score Polo for the 4-0 lead. In the second inning Tony Riley hit in Jose Martinez from third. IIn the fourth inning the flood gates opened up offensively for the Panthers. DeMonte started the scoring with an RBI groundout, while Jesus Licon scored Luke Juarez and ended up reaching on an error. Konstantino scored Licon shortly after with a double and then two bases-loaded walks finished off the scoring for the Panthers.
The Panthers pounded out 10 hits and also had nine walks in the contest, led by Tony Riley with three.
Game 2
Treyton Scully picked up the complete-game win going seven innings and allowing just one earned run. He walked two batters and struck out five.
Offensively the Panthers picked up six hits by six different players. The Panthers trailed 2-0 until the fourth inning. In the fourth inning the Panthers got some help by the Spires defense. Tony Riley reached on an error by the center fielder, and then Jesus Licon hit him in with a double. Another error allowed Licon to score before Freddy Tlatenchi singled in Alex Hinrichs.
In the fifth inning Licon picked up another RBI as he hit a sacrifice fly to score Luke Juarez from third.
The Spires put the pressure on Scully in the seventh inning as they put runners on first and second with two outs. But a line out to Juarez finished off the game.
Game 3
The Panthers left no doubt in the series sweep as they won the final game 18-0. The Panthers scored four runs in the first, six in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth, and five in the sixth to blow past the Spires.
Tyler Chavis picked up his first win on the mound with one hit over five innings of play. He struck out six in the contest.
Jesus Licon was the offensive power as he went 4-for-5 on the day with three doubles and a home run. Cesar Galvan and Charlie Konstantino also picked up doubles on the day. Freddy Tlatenchi was a producer at the plate as well going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
The Panthers collected nine walks along with their 18 hits on the day.
With the win the Panthers improve to 5-2 in KCAC play. They play at Kansas Wesleyan on Tuesday before heading to Ottawa to face the KCAC leading Braves.
