Box Score 2 Wichita, KAN. - York College earned a nice split on day one of the Friends University Tournament. York lost a tough game one to Peru State 9-8 before battling back and beating Hannibal-LaGrange 9-0 in six innings.
York vs. Peru State
The Panthers looked to pick up their first win of the season as they led 8-2 going into the final inning. Unfortunately, the bats of the Bobcats woke up and they scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh for the come-from-behind win.
Breanna Underwood led the Panthers with a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate. She also stole four bases in the contest. Katherine Arceo hit a solo home run as well in the game. Kate Reyes was the other Panther with a multi-hit game. She went 3-for-4 from the plate, while also pitching the entire game.
York vs. Hannibal-LaGrange
York scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win via the run-rule. Kennedie Anderson and Haylea Thomas each hit a home run in the game. Thomas hit a walk-off grand slam in the sixth to pace the Panthers offensively. Kieyerah Twombly, Underwood, Anderson, and Thomas each had two hits on the game.
Bailey Hardey picked up the win as she went six innings and didn't allow a run. She gave up five hits while striking out four batters.
