Box Score 2 YORK - After losing a nailbiter in game one 2-0, the Panthers battled back and took game two against McPherson College 3-2 in the home finale Wednesday evening.
Game One
York loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to have the tying run in scoring position. However, the Panthers were unable to score with three straight strikeouts ended the ball game with York failing to get a hit with runners in scoring position.
Kennedie Anderson was the only Panther to pick up a hit before the final inning. Anderson was a perfect 3-for-3 from the dish in the game. Sofia Perez hit a single in the seventh to put runners at first and second.
Bailey Hardey pitched a solid game going the distance and allowing just two runs. She struck out two batters. McPherson's pitcher struck out seven different batters in the contest as she picked up the win.
Game Two
The Panthers found themselves in a tough situation early as the first two batters for McPherson reached on errors. However, the threat was neutralized as the Panthers turned a double play on the next batter and Kate Reyes struck out the next batter. York's offense started off early getting the lead after just the first inning when Kate Reyes scored Sariah Ayala on a bases-loaded fielder's choice.
The Bulldogs answered in the third inning after an error scored the runner from first base. York took the lead back in the fifth as Breanna Underwood scored on a grounder that was misplayed by the third baseman. Underwood scored again an inning later when Sariah Ayala doubled to right-center.
McPherson made the game interesting in their final at-bat as they were able to get runners on first and second with two outs. A single scored one run to make it 3-2 and they had runners at second and third. Bailey Hardey forced a grounder to short and Cheyenne Cooper threw over to first for the final out of the ball game.
Hardey was credited with the win as she came in to relieve Reyes. Reyes took a hard grounder off of the leg in the fourth inning. Ayala was perfect from the dish going 2-for-2 and Haylea Thomas was 2-for-3 to lead the Panthers offensively.
York will travel to Tabor College this weekend for their final regular-season games. The Panthers are still in a tight race to make the KCAC tournament.
