FOREST CITY, IOWA. – The York University women's wrestling team put forth a solid effort at the Benedictine Duals Friday.
The Panthers'
Folashade Akinola earned a second-place finish in the 207-lb. division. Akinola accounted for 24 points for York. She started the day with a win via fall in 1:31. Akinola followed it up with a quarterfinal pin in 2:47. She followed it up with a pin fall victory in the semifinals in a mere 46 seconds to reach the championship match. Akinola dropped the contest 12-2 but solidified the silver medal for her work.
Rocio Chavez-Fuentes picked up 15 points for her sixth-place effort in the 110-lb. class. After a first-round bye, she pinned her opposition in the second round in a time of 5:08. In the quarterfinals, Chavez-Fuentes notched a fall in just 51 seconds.
In the 131-lb. division,
Jill High earned 13 points for her sixth-place finish. In the second round, she won by an 8-2 decision to reach the quarterfinals. In the round of eight, High won via fall in just 1:01.
Joy Ortiz garnered a win via fall in the consolation bracket. Her match lasted 5:58 before earning the victory in the 160-lb. class.
