CRETE, Neb. – The York University women's wrestling team competed at the Doane Open Saturday.
Folashade Akinola recorded a second-place effort in the 207-lb. division. After receiving an opening-round bye, she pinned her foe in a mere 41 seconds. Akinola was even better in the quarterfinal, downing her opponent from Morningside in just 14 seconds.
After advance to the semifinals, Akinola garnered a 6-0 win against her opponent from Hawkeye C.C., earning a spot in the finals. Akinola came up short, losing in the championship match.
For her work, Akinola tallied 15 points.
Jill High picked up three points at the 131-lb. division. High won via fall against her opening-round foe from Menlo College. She posted her win in 5:32.
After dropping her second-round match, High advanced to the consolation bracket's third round. Unfortunately, she was unable to pick up the win in the match.
The Panthers return to action Saturday, Jan. 4, when they compete at the University of Saint Mary.
