LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The York University women's wrestling team performed well at the Spire Open Friday.
Rocio Chavez Fuentes captured first place in the 117-lb. division. She posted four consecutive wins via falls to advance to the championship match. There, she bested her teammate with a 0-0 technical fall victory. In the same class,
Vienna Martinez garnered four points and took sixth.
Jill High posted a second-place finish in the 131-lb. class. After receiving an opening-round bye, High accounted for a pin in a mere 16 seconds of action. In the quarterfinal, High won via pin fall in 87 seconds. High advanced to the championship match with a victory over her foe from Ottawa University. She won in 1:32. High picked up 33 points for her effort.
Grace Conner took second in the 103-lb. division.
The Panthers return to action tomorrow at the Grand View Open starting at 9 a.m.
