FOREST CITY, Iowa – The York University women's wrestling team had a solid day at the Waldorf Open.
In the 160-lb. division,
Piper Kunnap also had a good tournament. She bested Clary Klein via fall in 3:24 before picking up a decision win over Randi Nicholson. She also notched another win en route to her championship match against Kylie Hulse. Kunnap came away with the silver medal.
Jill High wrestled in the 131-lb. class. She recorded three wins via fall and one via technical fall (10-0) in order to reach the consolation semifinals. High recorded one fall in just 1:25 before the technical fall victory. She was up 7-2 against Julia Kanne prior to the fall win in 1:19. High also notched a win via fall in 3:38 against Nora Houglum. She dropped a 12-4 decision but took on Cailyn Whittier in the consolation semifinals. A forfeit allowed her to claim fifth place.
In the 103-lb. class,
Jocelyn Prado lost her opener. However, she rebounded and registered a fall in 5:17 against her opponent from Southeast CC. She bested an opponent from Augsburg via technical fall (10-0). Prado dropped a contest in the consolation bracket.
Rocio Chavez competed in the 110-lb. division and picked up a win in the consolation bracket. She took down an opponent from Waldorf via fall at the 2:30 mark.
Competing at the 180-lb. division, Ellyannah Clinton lost a pair of matches. Her matches were against student-athletes from Wartburg and Jamestown.
The Panthers return to action Friday, Nov. 21 at the Missouri Valley Open.
