ROSEVILLE, Calif. – The York University women's wrestling team put forth a tremendous showing at the Women's West Coast Tournament of Champions, which wrapped up Saturday.
The Panthers were led by a pair of second-place efforts from Jill High and Piper Kunnap.
High's second-place effort occurred in the 131-lb. division. She opened the tournament with a pin fall in just 53 seconds against Alondra Paredes. She was just as sharp in the semifinal, posting a technical fall victory over Jacey Kuntz by a 10-0 score. High came up short in the championship match, dropping an 8-1 decision to Jania Dunigan of Schreiner University.
Kunnap's second-place performance was in the 160-lb. class. After receiving an opening-round bye, she bested Christina Pahcheka via pin fall in a mere 56 seconds. She recorded a nearly identical result in the quarterfinal, registering a pin fall victory in 1:08 against Tabitha Mariscal. After dismantling the opposition in the semifinal via a 21-10 technical fall win (over Kate Luzuriaga), Kunnap lost the title match to Trinity Bouchal (Arizona State) via a fall.
The Panthers return to action Sunday, Jan. 4, when they compete at the University of Saint Mary Dual.
