DES MOINES, IOWA. – The York University women's wrestling team had a solid showing at the Grand View Open Saturday.
Rocio Chavez Fuentes earned 16.0 points at the meet in the 110-lb. class. She opened the tournament with a bye. She then accounted for a 15-10 victory over her foe from Ellsworth C.C. In the quarterfinals she advanced with a win via decision. The standout pinned the semifinal opponent from Wayland Baptist in 1:01, earning a spot in the finals.
Jill High garnered 8.0 points Saturday in the 131-lb. division. In the consolation bracket, she earned a pin fall win in just 1:10. High picked up another win via fall in just 4:04 in the consolation third round. She continued her stellar day, winning again via pin in 2:28.
Grace Conner posted 2.5 points in the 103-lb. class. She opened the meet with a technical fall win by a 14-1 score over Midland. However, she dropped the next two matches.
The Panthers return to action Saturday, Feb. 8, when they compete at the Midland Open starting at 6 p.m.
