BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The York University women's wrestling team performed well at the Jimmy May Open Saturday.
The Panthers were paced by Rocio Chavez-Fuentes and
Jill High as each picked up four points at the tournament.
In the 117-lb class, Chavez-Fuentes opened the event with a pin fall victory in just 42 seconds. She defeated Trinity Matheson of Oklahoma State. Chavez-Fuentes fell in the quarterfinals and consolation bracket, concluding her day at 1-2.
High, competing in the 131-lb. division, notched a technical fall win over Aileya Sath of Baker University by an impressive 10-0 score in the second round of action. After dropping a match in the quarterfinals, she battled back to garner a 15-9 win via decision against her foe from William Penn in the consolation bracket. She wrapped up the meet at 2-2.
The Panthers return to action Saturday, March 1, when they compete at the KCAC Tournament in Kansas City, Mo.
