Women's Wrestling: High's championship leads Panthers in York Open

YORK, Neb. – The York University women's wrestling team performed well at the York Open Saturday.

Head coach Jeff Albers' squad saw Jill High claim first place in the 131-lb. division. She opened with a pin fall in just 30 seconds against an opponent from Northern Oklahoma. In the quarterfinal, she wasted little time in a 59-second victory via pin. High notched a 10-0 technical fall win in the semifinal before registering a victory in 4:07 for the crown over a foe from Iowa Lakes.

Angelean Rose garnered fourth place and tallied 10 points. In the consolation bracket, she notched a 2-1 decision over a foe from GVWC. She then bested her teammate, Kodi Taylor, with a pin fall in 2:08. However, she was unable to claim the win in the third-place match.

Taylor secured fifth place in the 180-lb. class. She registered a hard-fought 8-5 win via decision over Lydian Rigby of Fort Hays Tech for the spot in the top five.

Jocelyn Prado picked up 4.5 points in the 103-lb. division. She bested Kyra Gonzalez via pin fall in just 42 seconds in the consolation bracket. Prado notched a 10-0 technical fall victory over a foe from Northern Oklahoma.
