ASHEVILLE, N.C. – York University freshman phenom Katy Soucek finished 13^th in the discus at the NAIA National Championship Friday.
 
The standout from Silverlake, Neb., shattered the school record, claiming the NCCAA National Championship two weeks ago with a mark of 46.07m. 
 
Against 19 other student-athletes at the NAIA National Championship Friday afternoon, Soucek entered the event with the 11^th-best effort and was one of just four freshmen to reach the national final.
 
After a foul on her first attempt, she registered a distance of 42.16m (138'4") during her second attempt. Soucek notched a mark of 41.25m (135'4") on her third and final attempt of the meet.

Sydney Duncan of IU Kokomo (Ind.) won the event with a throw of 47.62m (156'2").
