WILMORE, Ky. – Freshman standout
Katy Soucek won the discus throw at the NCCAA National Championships, which wrapped up Friday afternoon.
Her victory helped the Panthers finish 11
th with 31 points.
Soucek, a native of Silverlake, Neb., recorded a winning throw of 46.07m (151-1). After fouling in her first attempt, she posted the national-championship winning mark.
Soucek followed it up with efforts of 43.74m, 44.73m, 43.60m and 43.21m in her final four attempts.
Allison Parker garnered a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 39.63m. Soucek earned a sixth-place finish after a throw of 38.27m while
Megan Burdge was ninth with an effort of 37.32m. Parker secured five points while Soucek earned three.
Cierra Dringman also notched a fourth-place finish at the meet, occurring in the pole vault. She cleared 2.90m, securing five points for York.
Alana Barron led a quartet of Panthers in the javelin. The sophomore registered a mark of 32.76m, which was good enough for sixth place.
Naomi Taake took seventh with an effort of 32.09m.
Morgan Dinkler snagged eighth place after posting a mark of 29.82m.
Mayah Colle snagged ninth place with a throw of 29.42m.
Barron picked up three points while Taake and Dinkler earned two and one point, respectively, in the event.
Dringman recorded a mark of 1:07.49 in the 400m hurdles, earning her a seventh-place finish. The effort allowed her to pick up two points for York.
Soucek was 11
th in the shot put with a mark of 10.38m.
Abbygail Davis turned in an impressive time in the 400m. The freshman crossed the line in 1:03.17, which was good enough for 12
th place.
