Box Score LINDSBORG, Kan. – The York University baseball team lost a 16-6 decision at Bethany Tuesday afternoon in a KCAC contest.
The Panthers are now 19-22 on the season, including 11-17 in league play.
Head coach
Brian Walth's team opened the game with a run in the top of the first.
Austin Grant singled to right field and moved to second when
Secundino Morales reached on an error. A fly ball pushed Grant to third and he scored when
Ryan Romero reached on an error for a 1-0 edge.
Bethany scored four runs in the bottom of the first and two in the second for a 6-1 edge, but the Panthers sliced the deficit over the next two frames.
Morales led off the third inning with a single. With two away, Romero reached on an error, putting two on board.
Trevor Peterson's single to center field plated Morales and
Nicholas DeMonte's double to left made it 6-4 as Romero and Peterson scored.
The Swedes managed to get back all four runs in the bottom of the stanza for a 10-5 lead.
Down 12-5 in the sixth,
Cameron Reeve tripled and scored on a single to right field by Grant. However, that was as close as the visitors would get.
Bethany added two runs in the seventh and two in the eighth for the 10-run advantage.
For the game, DeMonte, Grant and Morales registered two hits apiece. DeMonte accounted for two RBI while Grant scored twice. Reeve posted a triple while DeMonte garnered a double for the team's lone extra base hits.
On the mound,
Bryce Woodard got the start and worked three innings.
Sam Maudsley tossed 1.2 frames while
Owen McClung worked 2.1 innings.
Josiah Young pitched the final two-thirds of the contest. Maudsley and McClung had two strikeouts apiece.
