With incredible dedication, perseverance, and success, Dave Hawley has coached men's and women's tennis at Wichita Collegiate School for 42 years. In that time his teams have earned more than 50 state titles. This feat is more remarkable as Hawley has a no-cut policy for his teams, giving every young person a chance to play and improve.

Hawley’s athletic career started at York High School. Senior year he was the runner up for state doubles and helped the team to earn a state champion title. He then went on to play tennis for York College and Harding University.  At York College, he was undefeated and won the conference title for singles in both years.

Hawley loves his players and Collegiate -- and both the students and school love him back. That was made clear in 2007 when after extensive upgrades and repairs to Collegiate’s tennis courts, school leaders surprised him by renaming the facility the Dave Hawley Tennis Center.

Well known in Kansas for his coaching prowess, he has been Kansas Tennis Coach of the Year recipient 13 times and was part of the inaugural group of coaches inducted into the National High School Tennis Coaches Hall of Fame. In 2018 Hawley will also be inducted into the Hall of Fame at York High School. In addition to coaching, Hawley teaches seventh grade history. In 2004, he was honored as a Distinguished Teacher by the Kansas Association of Independent and Religious Schools.

Because of his outstanding athletic achievements and dedication to instilling excellence in the next generation of athletes, on this day, October 19, 2018, David Hawley ‘72 is inducted into the York College Athletic Hall of Fame.
