Scott Carstens sported Panther blue during the 1977 and 1978 seasons, playing tennis for York University under Head Coach Jim Anderson and Assistant Coach Effendi Daoedsjadh.
In Scott’s first year, he pulled a combined singles and doubles record of 30-0 on the court, winning conference and regionals in each category. His second year, he extended that record to 62-1, losing in the final singles match of the regional tournament where he was runner up. Scott never lost a conference match, winning the Prairie Junior College Conference singles and doubles titles both years. His doubles partners were brothers Lowell and Daryl Anderson in ’77 and ’78 respectively, both of whom joined Carstens as Regional IX champions and qualified for the NJCAA Tournament.  Â
Scott transferred to Harding University following his time with the Panthers where he secured a tennis scholarship to play, earning rankings to gain access to the All-Conference and All-District teams, as well as qualifying for the National Tournament in 1980. That same year, he was named as Harding University’s Athlete of the Year. Â
Carstens was dominant on the court and a proud leader on campus. He was honorable and determined which highly benefited the York University community and tennis program.Â
Because of his outstanding athletic achievements during his years with York University, on this day, October 21, 2023, Scott Carstens ’78 is inducted into the York University Athletic Hall of Fame.
