Greg Smith came to York University as a transfer out of Labette Community College in 2004 to help develop the inaugural wrestling team.

Smith was a two-time NAIA National Qualifier and became the first York University wrestler to earn All-American honors in 2006.

As a student-athlete Smith was very involved in the mission of York as he gave his life to Christ in 2006. He also was named Homecoming King and York University Male Athlete of the Year.

York University changed Smith’s life as he dedicated more than eight years to working for the institution in different roles, including head coach of the program he helped start.

Smith graduated from York University in 2006 with a degree in education and later earned a master's degree in education, curriculum and instruction. He has dedicated his adult life to molding young minds to be better people in the classroom and on the wrestling mat.

He is currently the principal at Nebraska Christian Schools in Central City, Nebraska.

Because of his outstanding athletic achievements during his years with York University and his continued love for the university and young adults, on this day, October 21, 2023, Greg Smith ’06 is inducted into the York University Athletic Hall of Fame.
