She became the first York College player to record 1,000 kills in a career. As a freshman, Hawley led the team with a .330 hitting percentage, earning her outstanding freshman honors.

Continuing her record of excellence, during her junior year she helped lead the Panthers to the National Small College Athletic Association Championship game where the Panthers beat No. 1 seed Dominican College. Hawley received Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference recognition her junior and senior years earning All-Conference honors. She was also recognized by York College her senior year when she was honored as Ms. YC. Faculty and staff make the selection for this award from among graduating seniors, using leadership, involvement, academic performance and personality as the criteria.

After college, Hawley dedicated her career to enlivening the minds of young people and broadening their horizons through education. Currently Hawley is a middle school math teacher at Harding Academy in Memphis, Tennessee. She also taught for 12 years in Oregon Public Schools in Oregon, Wisconsin. In 2013, Oregon Public Schools recognized her with the Making a Difference Award for her work with at-risk and special needs high school students.

Because of her outstanding athletic achievements and dedication to her students and the teaching profession, on this day, October 19, 2018, Laura Hawley is inducted into the York College Athletic Hall of Fame.
